In May 2019, HB 2692 was signed into law as A.R.S. § 41-860.06 by Governor Doug Ducey to make lemonade the official state drink.

The efforts to make lemonade the state drink were spearheaded by Garrett Glover, a teenager living in Gilbert. Glover was inspired to recommend lemonade when he realized that the State Seal included four of the five C's (cattle, copper, cotton, and climate), but left out citrus. No other state claimed lemonade as its state drink as of 2019.

Many other drinks were proposed by Arizona Representatives, including pink lemonade, sun tea, margarita, tequila, and jamaica. In the end, lemonade won out.
