Photograph Collections
Archives' photographs focus upon the unique cultural heritage of the state and territory of Arizona, beginning in 1863. There are over 80 photograph collections at the Arizona State Archives consisting of print photographs, slides, negatives, glass plate negatives, tintypes, transparencies, and postcards. Researchers may find print photographs in our government records and manuscript collections. Here is a list of our photograph collections.
Over 25,000 are currently digitized and available online via the Arizona Memory Project. The majority of photographs in the collection pre-date 1940, with emphasis on the following areas:
- Arizona state government
- Colorado River
- New Deal
- C.S. Fly Collection from Tombstone in the 1880s
- Arizona Governor George W. P. Hunt’s extensive photo collection
- Thomas Henry Bate Collection
- Lloyd Clark Collection
- Calvin Osbon Collection
The Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records holds copyrights and applicable use rights to the images. Use of photographs from the Arizona State Archives without express written consent is prohibited. Donations of photographs which document the history of Arizona are continuously accepted.

Full-size digital prints and digital files are only available for publication and not for personal use. To order these, complete the appropriate order form:

Forms must be mailed, with original signature, and payment (by check or money order) included.
