Job Summary

GateWay Community College  seeks an innovative, dynamic, and deeply knowledgeable library professional to serve as Librarian. The person hired for this role will be responsible for coordinating, implementing, and assessing library programming and marketing initiatives, as well as spearheading outreach and strengthening partnerships between the Library and departments, divisions, and locations across the College. They will also fulfill the broader responsibilities of an academic librarian, including providing instruction and reference services, developing and maintaining research guides, and contributing to collection development. As library faculty, the person hired for this role will participate in college and district wide programs, committees and initiatives.
 

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with departments and provides liaison, outreach, and support services to align library instruction and programming with student needs and campus events.
  • Coordinates, develops, and implements library programs and displays that support student engagement, promotes library resources and services, and align with campus initiatives and student needs.
  • Markets and promotes library services, resources, and programs to students and faculty, while managing and assessing marketing efforts across social media, newsletters, and print and digital signage.
  • Engages in ongoing assessment of library services, student learning, and program success.
  • Provides library instruction to students in a variety of settings and modalities.
  • Designs and produces instructional materials in various formats, including online tutorials, research guides, and training materials, to meet a diversity of student needs.
  • Participates in the reference desk rotation by providing reference services and research consultations, including evening and Saturday coverage as needed.
  • Develops and maintains subject and/or class-specific research guides using the LibGuide platform.
  • Contributes to collection development by selecting and evaluating books, digital media, and resources in multiple formats using professional review tools.
  • Develops and maintains guidelines, procedures, and other documentation as needed.
  • Engages in professional development, scholarship, and service in accordance with District standards for promotion and tenure; serves on Library, College, and District committees.
  • Collaborates with library staff and contributes effectively in a team environment.
  • Provides excellent customer service and demonstrates respect to all customers, including staff, faculty, students, and the community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
     

Minimum Qualifications

A master's degree in Library or Information Science from a graduate professional program accredited by the American Library Association.


(A master’s degree (or higher) in any of the following areas is within the Library Field of Study: Library and Information Studies, Information Studies, Library and Information Science, Library Science, Information Resources and Library Science, Information Science, AND is from a college or university program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA). The degree must be conferred at the time of application.)
 

Desired Qualifications

A.Two (2) or more years experience teaching, developing lesson plans, and assessing learning outcomes for high school, college, and/or adult learners, in both in-person and digital/online learning environments. 

B. Experience within the last five (5) years providing reference and research assistance in an academic library through in-person and/or remote/virtual service environments, serving diverse populations and users at varying levels of research experience.

C. Experience using educational and/or library technologies, in one or more of the following areas: learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), integrated library and discovery systems (e.g., Alma/Primo), and research or instructional tools (e.g., Leganto, LibGuides).

D. Experience within the last five (5) years in one or more of the following areas within a library setting: planning, developing, and/or delivering outreach and promotional activities for library resources and services to diverse populations and users at varying levels.

E. Experience creating, managing, and promoting library, educational, or organizational content using social media platforms and graphic design tools (e.g Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).

F. One (1) year full-time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two (2) years.
 

Special Working Conditions

  • May be required to travel to all GateWay locations.
  • May be required to travel to all MCCCD locations.
  • Position is in-person on campus 4-5 days a week.
  • May require some evenings or Saturdays.
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen.
  • May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs.
  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas.
