Under general supervision, provides cataloging services, monitors and maintains the bibliographic database, and provides training on cataloging processes and standards to the members of the Yavapai Library Network (YLN).

 

Major Duties, Responsibilities

 

  • Develops curriculum and training materials in order to conduct training for YLN member library personnel on cataloging concepts, processes, and procedures.
  • Assesses and tracks the progress of YLN member library personnel.
  • Oversees and monitor of the integrity of all bibliographic and holdings records for the Yavapai Library Network, and makes corrections as needed.
  • Interacts with YLN member library staff to solve problems.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Master’s Degree in Library Science.

Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in cataloging or training staff in a library or library system.  
An equivalent combination of directly related work experience and education may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-per-year basis.

Additional Requirements:
Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Standard library cataloging practices, principles, methods and technical service processes.
  • MARC and RDA bibliographic cataloging standards.
  • Dewey Decimal, Library of Congress, and Superintendent of Documents classification schemes.
  • Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
  • Clerical office practices and procedures.
  • Research techniques and report writing.
  • Current Microsoft Office software.
  • Filing and recordkeeping.

Skill in:
  • Creating training manuals and training personnel.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Organization and adherence to detail.
Ability to:
  • Attend Yavapai Library Network User Group meetings when applicable.
  • Keep current on emerging cataloging standards.
  • Assist with special projects related to cataloging and technical services.
  • Prioritize work, meet deadlines, and make independent decisions.
  • Manage several different cataloging practices and procedures for a variety of different libraries.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
  • Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
  • Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
  • Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
  • Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.

Work Environment:
The work environment is associated with an office and public library and requires travel from site to site. The work area is adequately lighted, heated or cooled and ventilated.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
