SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs skilled and advanced duties in the operation of the library’s programs and services.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISITICS: It is distinguished by the next lower-level class by having the responsibility of technical and complex library duties. This position reports to the Assistant Library Director

- Issues library cards, checks materials in and out, aids with use of library equipment
- Assists patrons with information inquiries. Conducts internet and microfilm searches, locates reference material, and delivers information in person or electronically
- Assists in managing and implementing online services for the library.
- Markets library services including maintaining content for the library newsletter, website, and social media.
- Works with local organizations to promote library services
- Develops and implements library programming for the public
- Contribute to reporting for grants and other sources of funding to maintain and expand services
- Assists with training and providing direction to volunteers
- Oversees the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) program, including communicating with organizations for materials
- Receives, catalogs, and processes materials. Researches, identifies and resolves problems with cataloged records and processed materials.
- Assists with maintenance of library collection, including ordering and weeding materials
- Orders materials and tracks budget expenditures
- Shelves materials and maintains shelves in appropriate order
- Collects fines and payments
- Performs other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses:
- Associate’s degree preferred
- High School diploma or equivalent GED certificate, or equivalent experience.
- Two (2) years of public library work experience.
- Two (2) years’ customer service experience
- OR an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of cataloging rules and standards and alpha and numeric filing systems.
- Knowledge of basic research methods and record keeping.
- Skill in project organization
- Skill in reviewing and preparing reports and records.
- Skill in monitoring the disbursement of funds.
- Skill in operating a personal computer
- Skill in operating personal electronic devices and software applications including integrated library systems (ILS).
- Skill in verbal and written communication.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

- Skill in public speaking and presentations.
