DESCRIPTION

This position performs a variety of professional librarian duties, including creating programs, assisting the public, conducting outreach, and promoting the library within the community. Oversees and manages the library's physical and digital collections. Researches, selects, and purchases items for all age ranges and genres, informed by reports, data, and library patron and staff suggestions. Removes items based on usage and community fit, creates book lists and promotions, reviews and corrects bibliographic records, and manages the collection. Acts as person in charge of facility when needed.

 

 

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Participates in the creation, development, coordination, and implementation of public library programs for all ages that meet the interests and needs of the community.
  • Provides customer service and answers to reference and reader’s advisory questions in person, over the phone, and through electronic forums.
  • Educates library patrons in the use of electronic resources, including the library's webpage, catalog, research databases, and online downloadable resources.
  • Evaluates and manages collection materials and identifies materials that need to be replaced, added, or removed.
  • Maintains the library calendar by creating, updating and editing content, posting program information, and listing current events.
  • Represents the library in local, regional, national or other professional meetings including attending conferences, presenting at board meetings, or as members of professional associations.
  • Reviews new publications and collection materials to provide recommendations of up-to-date and relevant library materials directly to library patrons, and through bibliography lists, book displays, newsletters, and other outlets.
  • Performs outreach at city events with partner organizations and others, as needed.

 

REQUIREMENTS

Experience: One (1) year of experience in customer service.

Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year).  The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience. 

 

Education:

Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited

college or university.
