Job Summary
GateWay Community College (GWCC) Library seeks an innovative, dynamic, and deeply knowledgeable library professional to serve as Library Specialist Supervisor (Access Services). The person hired for this role manages the library integrated services. This management includes the new library management system (Alma) and daily operations of circulation, interlibrary loans, reserves, acquisitions, and library technology services. This role also supervises, manages, trains, and performs regular, quarterly, and scheduled evaluations for the Library Specialists, Temporary employees, student workers, and volunteers. The position leads and monitors quality control and assurance activities for the area and ensures the provision of excellent customer service. As a member of the library team, this person will participate in library outreach and represent the library in college and district-wide committees.
This position will begin in Spring 2026, January 5th 2026
Essential Functions
50% - Works collaboratively with the Library Division Chair to manage and oversee library access services including circulation, course reserves, materials processing, periodicals, and interlibrary loan processes. Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, trains, mentors, reviews and evaluates the work of staff and oversees daily operational activities in the provision of library integrated services. Knowledge of library management systems/automated library systems. Oversees and monitors quality control and assurance activities.
20% - Serve scheduled shifts at the circulation desk. Create the schedule and serve as backup for the circulation desk by either securing appropriate coverage or personally staffing the desk when necessary. Provide customer service and responds to requests and complaints including the more complex complaints that are escalated or not resolved at a lower level; actively monitors the library floor and interacts with patrons to ensure that the library environment is conducive to study/learning; actively monitors the library facility to ensure that the facilities are clean, safe and usable and reports issues to the Facilities Department as needed.
20% - Provides input and assists in developing, recommending and implementing operating policies, practices and work standards; assists with community outreach endeavors and the planning of events; compiles/reviews data and prepares routine and ad hoc reports; ensures adherence to workplace safety policies; procedures and practices; participates in college and district wide committees.
10% - Responsible for debt management and resolution of debts; and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associates Degree from a regionally accredited institution in library science or related field, two (2) years of related library support experience such as oversight of daily operations of circulation, interlibrary loans and reserves, acquisitions, periodicals and library technology services and two (2) years of lead work or senior level work experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
Desired Qualifications
A. Two (2) or more years of supervisory/management experience in a library within the last three years.
B. Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following circulation, interlibrary loans, reserves, acquisitions, and/or library technical services.
C. Two (2) years of experience and knowledge working hands-on with library systems (e.g., Alma/Primo) within the last three years.
D. Demonstrated experience supporting library outreach, programming, or events (provide examples).
E. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively on policy development, and application of best practices (provide examples).
F. Demonstrated customer service experience, preferably involving service to students in a library or educational setting.
G. Demonstrated experience in debt management, including managing patron accounts and debt resolution.
