Serves as an innovative leader within the library, City government, and the community. A Librarian III is an information advocate and forward thinker who inspires learning, discovery and the development of 21st century skills in staff, volunteers, and the community. Oversees and provides a variety of literacy programming, content creation, and preservation. Inspires continued learning, collaboration, skill development, and advocates for the library. Provides leadership and supervision to staff in one or more specialized aspects of library operations. Leads in the development and implementation of new and/or enhanced services. A Librarian III performs professional level work and supervision in one or more specific areas of library operations and coordination of a section within the library system and may have responsibility for a branch operation as well as a system-wide project(s).

Education and Experience
- A Master's Degree in library science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited university, or a Master's degree in a related field.
- Three years of progressively responsible library experience, including at least one year of supervisory responsibilities.
- An equivalent combination of education and job related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
- Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge:- Principles, library policies, best practices, trends, and current professional library theories and issues, including intellectual freedom and e-content publishing.
- Customer service principles and practices with dedicated emphasis to wards excellence in service delivery.
- Current and emerging models, practices, and tools used by public libraries for the access and discover ability of resources.
- Library resources, both digital and physical, with proven ability to research, retrieve, evaluate, and utilize.
- Supervisory techniques and practices.
- Development of community outreach services to promote library usage.
- Contract administration.
- Microsoft Office products and other relevant technologies, and Integrated Library Systems (ILS) software.
- Provide leadership and embrace risk taking, innovation, collaboration and change.
- Listen, communicate and positively interact with internal customers, external customers and vendors.

- Present programs to a variety of audiences (both internal and external).

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
- Provides and models exceptional customer service by making the customer the first priority.
- Supervises employees and coordinates personnel-related activities to include, but not limited to: training, approving work schedules, recommending/approving personnel actions, coaching and counseling, establishing performance goals, and writing performance evaluations.
- Establishes, maintains, and fosters positive, harmonious, professional, and effective working relationships.
- Manages, creates and/or delivers exceptional programming and educational opportunities within the library, through community outreach, and virtually.
- Teaches and collaborates with customers, staff, and a variety of organizations to create content, to be effective consumers of information, and to be a lifelong learner.
- Communicates library policies and procedures, request compliance with Library Rules of Conduct, and serves as "In-Charge" person in the evenings, on weekends, and as assigned.
- Performs daily duties in a manner consistent with the Library's mission, goals, and objectives.
- Meets diverse community needs, exposes the libraries' rich collections and resources to the community and continually learns, applies, and teaches new technologies.
- Plans and coordinates implementation of section objectives and responsibilities.
- Supervises the management of the library collection, including all acquisition activity.
- Communicates regularly with staff who use collection management software to monitor material levels.
- Provides in-depth reference and readers' advisory service to customers.
- Plans special displays, activities and programs for various age groups.
- Coordinates reference, youth, branch, or periodical activities.
