CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

Provide expert technological support for library management systems and related applications that support the development, implementation, and maintenance of library management systems to enable discovery, access, and management of library materials and related applications:

  • Create and customize reports from library management systems and related applications
  • Create and customize system integrations and data extracts
  • Extract, transfer, and load information between library management systems, related applications and other campus systems. Examples of this type of work include:
    • Writing, updating, and monitoring scripts that communicate between the library management system and the accounting/bursar’s department to coordinate charges and payments for fees for late/missing materials
    • Creating and monitoring groups or jobs within the library management system to load patrons who have access to library materials
    • Communicating and coordinating with the Access & Information team to ensure the Primo discovery layer is working as seamlessly as possible with the Rapido interlibrary loan system.

Provide software development and support expertise for applications and scripting related to the library management systems and their interactions with other campus systems, ensuring library system security and data reliability to the library management systems:

  • Evaluate user requirements, perform technical assessments, and develop technical requirements
  • Write, test and maintain software code, queries, and other reports using current tools and various programming languages
  • Isolate, identify, and articulate problems with software applications
  • Establish and maintain consistency of a product’s performance and functional/physical attributes throughout its lifecycle
  • Ensure library management system security and data integrity through maintenance of software certificates in coordination with Central IT, coordinating with library PII Governance Group to ensure patron personal data is protected and sharing among library information and other systems meets PII sharing guidelines; monitoring library information system (Primo) updates to ensure they are completed successfully and troubleshoot issues of they arise. Create and monitor integration and import profiles to ensure records for resources are loaded properly and are accessible to library users.

Other responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support and training for staff on library management systems and related applications
  • Assist with vendor support of systems as necessary
  • Actively participate in department and library-wide meetings, discussions, projects, and training sessions
  • Communicate with other library departments – including Access & Information Services, Student Learning & Engagement, and Technology Strategy & Services about processes, Library Services Platform systems troubleshooting and other ad hoc communication
  • The UA Libraries support the UA’s strategic initiatives designed to create a welcoming environment for all faculty, staff, and students.  The candidate is expected to support related strategic efforts in the department and Libraries.
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Knowledge of general library practices and procedures, and an understanding of library services
  • Expertise in providing support for library management systems and related applications, preferably Ex Libris Primo VE and Ex Libris Alma
  • Knowledge of library data and communication standards (e.g., MARC, Z39.50)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, one that values and leverages the benefits of a variety of perspectives
  • Positive attitude and strong demonstration of UA Libraries’ Values

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional-level experience required
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Experience working with and administering library management systems and related applications, preferably Ex Libris Alma, Ex Libris Primo, and OCLC ILLiad
  • Experience with cataloging and metadata application within a library environment
  • Experience working in a university library
