Library Specialist - Circulation

Position Summary:
Performs specialized paraprofessional duties in the Circulation Services work group for the Library; supervises assigned Library Assistants and volunteers; models excellent customer service; and works closely with other staff in support of operations for the Library. This position provides leadership and guidance to Circulation Services staff through supervision, training, performance evaluation, and staff meetings.
Essential Duties:
- Leads, supervises, guides, trains, and evaluates assigned personnel
- Creates and maintains patron accounts
- Performs duties related to checking in, checking out, and shelving materials in a busy environment
- Uses automated circulation system to circulate materials to Library users including checking materials in and out, processing holds, issuing cards, resolving fines and fees, and handling book sale purchases
- Oversees processing of book donations
- Performs activities involved in the retrieval of overdue materials; acts as contact person for customers inquiring about their records
- Assists in Department operations including opening and closing the Circulation Desk and emptying book drops
- Represents, promotes the Library and issues cards at outreach functions
- Interprets and insures the implementation of Prescott Public Library and Yavapai Library Network policies and procedures; communicates such information to staff and Library customers
- Responds to queries and resolves circulation problems and concerns from staff and Library customers
- Solicits and conveys information from staff to supervisor or other appropriate staff
- Oversees operations in the absence of supervisor
- Assists in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Circulation Services; researches missing items; and contacts responsible parties for return/replacements
- Performs basic circulation equipment troubleshooting and maintenance
- Audits shelves for proper order and display
- Assigns/responds to emails to the Library
- Maintains partnership with Talking Books depending on assignment
- Assists Library customers with use of equipment such as self-checkout computer and copy machines
- Provides users with general information about Library services directing them to other staff as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent. Three (3) years of library experience; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Most work is performed in a library environment, and in some community settings.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and/or push materials including full book carts, book bins, and lifting tubs weighing up to 35 pounds.
- Must be able to perform physically demanding duties involving repetitive standing, walking, reaching, bending, and stretching for long periods of time. Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, laptop and/or tablet PC, telephone, e-reader, calculator, cash register, bar code reader, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
