JOB SUMMARY
The Research & Training Specialist II reports to the Director, Knowledge Services and will provide legal and non-legal research, training on firm resources and assist with the firm’s intranet Kutak Rock Knowledge. The person in the position must demonstrate initiative, a desire to learn new skills, be intellectually curious, and be willing to take ownership of projects. We are looking for a candidate with a proactive approach to the provision of research & resource training services.
This is a full-time position that offers a hybrid work option in one of the following firm offices: Omaha, Kansas City, Little Rock, Scottsdale.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide customizable business, legal, due diligence, and general research firmwide for attorneys, paralegals, other administrative departments, and staff
- Perform in-depth cite-checking of pleadings, articles and presentations using The Bluebook and state-specific style standards
- Create and manage litigation & legislative alerts, docket tracks, and news alerts
- Interpret inquiries and recommend appropriate tools for a given project, based on client needs, the nature of the research, and coverage of the resource
- Arrange interlibrary loans and document retrieval from external sources. This may include travel to other local libraries for research and borrowing of materials
- Research, analyze, develop, and publish content to intranet sites for Research Services Department, Firm offices, practice areas, and other administrative groups
- Assist Competitive Intelligence Analyst & Project Manager with training the firm’s intranet content publishers
- Create training materials, user guides, and pathfinders on firm resources
- Develop and present remote training webinars; handle one-on-one just in time training for attorneys, paralegals, other administrative departments, and staff on firm electronic resources
- Coordinate vendor training with Resource Manager and/or Resource Specialist
- Actively participate in virtual team and project meetings
- Assist in cost recovery for database research where appropriate
- Work with other team members to develop and prepare announcements and newsletters regarding available services
- Record and report research projects and time using InTapp and SydneyEnterprise in a manner that meets deadlines and provides meaningful ROI information
- Maintain library related resources if located in an office with a print collection
- Assist with various administrative duties and projects as necessary or requested by the Director, Knowledge Services
QUALIFICATIONS: Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated proficiency using a variety of research databases including Westlaw, Monitor Suite, Hoovers, Mergent Conflicts, PACER, and VitalLaw
- Good judgment in deciding the most appropriate resources to use for cost effective research
- Understand online search techniques
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong analytical skills
- High degree of personal responsibility
- Knowledge of customer service expectations; possess a service-oriented mindset
- Ability to prioritize and multitask; ability to move from one project to another
- Clear, concise, and effective verbal and written communication skills
- Above average proficiency using Microsoft Office products
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, often with team members in other offices and/or time zones
QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience
- Master’s degree in library (MLIS/MLS)
- Five plus years of legal research experience
- Prior experience developing training resources
