Job Summary

Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is seeking a full-time Librarian. This position will   work collaboratively with library faculty to design, teach, and assess innovative, dynamic information literacy instruction for a diverse population in face-to face and online environments, share reference (in person and online), and collection development responsibilities. The successful candidate will have experience providing excellent customer service, demonstrate a commitment to integrity and diversity in the workplace, and have the ability to use various digital tools and systems necessary in meeting the responsibilities of this position. Scottsdale Community College (SCC) values diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all students, faculty, and staff.

This faculty position will start August 2023.

To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus, with the possibility of partial remote work depending on business needs.

Essential Functions

  • Designs and teaches information literacy instruction for credit and non-credit courses aligned to the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) framework. Incorporates assessment strategies tied to SCC’s General Education outcomes to improve instruction and student learning. Demonstrates innovation in teaching and in the use of student-centered learning strategies in face-to-face and online environments.
  • Provides reference assistance to students, faculty, staff and community members both face-to-face and online.
  • Collaborates with faculty to develop customized course materials, including open educational resources. Develops library collection (print, media and electronic) to meet curricular and research needs for academic division liaison areas. Cultivates relationships to develop and promote student success. Participates in retention efforts such as Fields of Interest teams and integrated student support models.
  • Oversees a specialty area such as Virtual Services, Information Literacy Instruction, Collection Development, Outreach, Educational Programming, or other related areas. Additionally, works as a team member to contribute to all specialty areas of the library as needed.
  • Flexibility to adapt and respond to the ever-changing landscape of information services in an academic library.
  • Remains current with new trends and developments in the field through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, and workshops. Participates in college and district/division meetings, committees, and projects. Supports the mission of the college by engaging with the broader campus community. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1.  A master's degree in Library or Information Science (or its equivalent) from a graduate professional program accredited by the American Library Association
    AND
  2.  EDU250-Teaching and Learning in the Community Colleges-or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire

Desired Qualifications

A. Three (3) or more years of demonstrated experience serving a diverse population.

B. Two (2) or more years of experience providing in-person and/or virtual reference and information services, preferably in an academic library.

C.     Demonstrated ability to create, deliver, and assess student-centered instruction using information literacy best practices in face-to-face and online environments.

D. Experience using, troubleshooting, and maintaining various library technologies such as electronic resources, integrated library systems, discovery systems, learning management systems, LibGuides, Google Suites, and interactive instructional tools.

E. Experience working collaboratively with other team members to innovate and problem-solve.

F. Demonstrated ability to oversee a library speciality area such as Virtual Services, Information Literacy Instruction, Collection Development, Outreach, Educational Programming, or other related areas.

Special Working Conditions

  • Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense.
  • Will be required to travel to other MCCCD locations.
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.
  • May require prolonged periods of sitting and viewing a computer screen.
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs.
  • This position requires a physical presence on campus with possible partial remote work depending on business needs to best serve the students, department and college.
  • This position is scheduled to start August 2023.
