Essential Functions
- Assists library users in-house, over the phone and by email in locating and utilizing law library resources including legal forms, web sites, databases and print materials.
- Assists library users who are doing research on relevant laws, regulations, cases and legal articles.
- Researches and responds to complex reference questions.
- Resolves user complaints and problems and investigates and resolves operational, and technical issues.
- Researches and recommends evidence-based models of customer service to the director for implementation.
- Proposes and develops new technological solutions for the effective delivery of library services.
- Prepares pathfinders, bibliographies and maintains a database of reference questions and sources of previously answered questions.
- Assists in the maintenance of the law library web pages, forms and informational packets.
- Monitors and supervises the currency of judicial libraries. Maintains a judicial collection database to include inventory, requests and distributions.
- Assists the director in the maintenance of an online catalog, authority files and circulation files, using an integrated library management system.
- Participates in the check-out/in of library materials, and calculates, collects and accounts for charges for overdue, lost or damaged library materials.
- Evaluates online resources and print materials for addition to, or subtraction from, the library’s collection. Makes recommendations to the director in order to maintain the collection’s currency, relevancy and integrity.
- Maintains a cash fund and uses a cash register for selling forms and giving change for a public use of copy machine; secures cash at closing, and prepares and submits deposits to the Treasurer's Office.
- Serves on systemwide committees, task force or design teams to develop new services and guidelines for implementing programs and services.
- Makes presentations to customers, schools, organizations, and community groups.
- Prepares monthly statistical reports utilizing library integrated information system, applications and spreadsheets.
- Oversees the library in the director’s absence.
- Opens and/or closes the library following established guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Science from an accredited college or university and one year of experience working or interning in a library or legal setting; OR, any equivalent amount of experience, training, and/or education approved by Human Resources.
- Preference may be given to those who speak Spanish fluently (in addition to English) and have knowledge of the legal system and specialized resources in the field of law and legal research.
