Description:
This position will oversee teen services for the Tempe Public Library under the direction of the Library Manager – Youth Services. This position will be required to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Job responsibilities include teen program creation and implementation, teen outreach, teen volunteer recruitment, grant writing, management of the Teen Center space and collection, customer service, readers’ advisory, presenting at local and national level meetings and events, and library instruction. The selected candidate will work closely with other City of Tempe departments and divisions, College Connect, Tempe Unified School District, Arizona State University, youth community groups, and other various partners. This position will perform administrative duties such as managing the teen services budget, implementing Teen Center policies, and recruiting, hiring, training, and mentoring part-time staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Work Experience:
Librarian I: Some library experience is preferred.
Librarian II: Requires two (2) years of library experience, which may include specialty areas as required.
Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
Education:
Librarian I/II: Requires a Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university.
The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).
