Job Duties:

  • Collection Development and Maintenance. Build collection by researching and selecting new materials for the Arizona Collection and for Reading Arizona. Work with vendors on ordering and payment. Work with organizations, institutions, and donors to evaluate and accept materials consistent with the collection policy, and manage the transfer process. Process new materials, including assuring that materials are cataloged, and that preservation needs are met.
  • Digitization and Online Tools. Support digitization of Arizona Collection by selecting, organizing, and assigning metadata to materials for inclusion in the Arizona Memory Project or other appropriate online platforms. Evaluate, manage, and update relevant online tools, including Arizona Legislators: Then and Now.
  • Reference and Research Supports. Provide in‐depth research assistance for patrons in person, and via the phone and email. Create, evaluate, and update research supports such as Arizona Collection-related finding aids and LibGuides.
  • Outreach, Marketing, and Collaboration. Assist with outreach efforts to the greater public, including creation of social media content, Author Series programming, and Arizona Genealogy Day. Monitor statistics and identify marketing opportunities for Reading Arizona, and implement strategies to engage with those opportunities. Collaborate with other staff and institutions through participation in professional groups and conferences such as ALA and AzLA.
  • Supervision of Volunteers. Directly supervise volunteers, such as FamilySearch scanning project volunteers.
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of Arizona and Southwest history, literature, government, and/or geography
  • Knowledge of collection development and management
  • Knowledge of online library content tools and practices, including copy cataloging
  • Skilled with the use of spreadsheets, databases, content management systems, web design tools, and online platforms
  • Skilled with the management of library system workflows
  • Skilled with working with researchers to determine their needs, and finding appropriate materials
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with diverse groups of people, including both technical and non-technical staff
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Ability to lift, carry, and pull up to 30 pounds

Selective Preference(s):

  • Master's degree in library science or related field.
  • Library experience that includes customer service, research assistance, collection development, and cataloging.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Valid Arizona driver's license
