The Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records (LAPR) is seeking proposals for a part-time, grant funded position as a BNGR Early Literacy Outreach Coordinator. This will be a temporary, grant-funded, independent contractor position with some flexibility to work around existing employment.
Goal - The purpose of the program is to expand access to early literacy programming for Family, Friend, and Neighbor providers (FFN) across Arizona by presenting early literacy programs to caregivers in host libraries with a focus on small and rural communities.
With the support and collaboration of LAPR, the BNGR Early Literacy Outreach Coordinator’s responsibilities will include the following.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate and implement 15 early literacy programs before September 30, 2022, with the support of the BNGR Early Literacy Library Team (team of 3 including the Coordinator).
Desired attributes:
- Comfortable presenting and communicating early literacy concepts to adults and children.
- Understanding of the early literacy landscape and early literacy organizations in Arizona.
- Knowledge of Every Child Ready to Read® @ your library® (ECRR) and other early literacy initiatives.
- Ability to train, support and coordinate the BNGR Early Literacy Library Team (2 facilitators).
- Capacity to travel to and present up to 5 early literacy programs in Arizona libraries by September 30, 2022.
- Ability to effectively communicate via email, phone, online chat, and videoconference.
Time commitment:
- Three 60-minute virtual planning sessions with LAPR (November 2021).
- Three 60-minute virtual training sessions with BNGR Early Literacy Library Team (December 2021).
- Nine 60-minute virtual coordination meetings with BNGR Early Literacy Library Team (January 2022 – September 2022).
- Prepare for and present a 90-minute session at an Early Literacy Summit (Tentatively planned for Chandler - February 2022).
- Prepare for and present up to 5 early literacy programs in Arizona libraries by September 30, 2022.
Early Literacy Outreach Coordinator will:
- Meet with LAPR and BNGR Early Literacy Library Team virtually to share project structure, and support implementation.
- Provide checklists of program essentials and workflows.
- Coordinate 15 early literacy programs before September 30, 2022.
- Invoice LAPR for services rendered as agreed upon for the purpose of this project.
LAPR will:
- Contract with 2 – 3 facilitators for the BNGR Early Literacy Library Team.
- Attend virtual planning, training, and coordination sessions with Contractor and BNGR Early Literacy Library Team as needed to provide guidance and support.
- Provide materials to host libraries to support early literacy programming (i.e., handouts, scarves, shakers, and other early literacy tools).
- Conduct a survey evaluating the effectiveness of the project and the impact of the project on public library services.
